African Percussion

Africa is one of the most culturally rich and diverse continents on Earth.
Its Music is full of vibrance, passion and energy which is used to celebrate, communicate and reflect the countless customs, beliefs and societies that stretch over this vast land.
Africas music is its life blood.
It has, and continues to influence music all around the world.

During these workshops we will delve into some of the more popular rhythms from West African percussion styles.

Focus will be on:

• How to produce the 3 main tones needed to play the rhythms
• Establishing primary rhythms
• Exploring cross rhythms
• Techniques to improve improvisation

These African Percussion Workshops can be held as a one hour Performance Workshop or Term Workshop consisting of one hour weekly workshops that last the term.

These African Percussion Workshops are very hands-on with the students spending 90% of the time on the drums.

All workshops are designed so that students can perform what they have learnt at its conclusion.
